Advanced Art:
Breadth and Depth

At the Advanced Level students are being prepared for portfolio reviews. Breadth and Depth are essential to award winning portfolios; Breadth, pertaining to the students ability to work in a wide variety of mediums skillfully, and Depth pertaining to the students personal voice coming through within a body of personal work.

Foot and Hand Studies

Advanced Art students were encouraged to take the common portfolio project of the hand and foot to a skillful and creative level.

Drapery

Master work copy and inspiration

Advanced Artist students created a replica of a master work chosen by them, and then created a personal inspired work of art from the technique, and compositional elements of their chosen Master Artist.

PErsonal concentration

A. Schlater (Columbine Shootings)
J. Newberg (Influential Authors)
D. Pettinga (Element of Disguise)

Big Idea: Secrets

Advanced Art students were challenged with the big idea of "secrets". How do they convey this concept without being trite? Students had to move beyond stereotypes and consider personal accounts with interpreting meaning to this big idea. Students had to complete 1 work inspired by secrets. Works below are mixed media, collage, and acrylic.

"Cow" Concentrations

Advanced Art students created a mini 3 part series based on the big idea of "cows". At first this seems like a ridiculous term to be inspired by, but as students considered how they could interpret it and bring meaning to the concept, their work was very original and intriguing. Works below are mixed media, graphic arts, and collage.
